A Virginia Beach, VA, woman has been charged with felony hit-and-run after crashing into a police officer’s patrol car at First Colonial Road and Virginia Beach Boulevard. She was arrested near the scene. The accident is a sobering reminder of the dangers of drunk driving.
Shortly before 2 am on March 14, 2012, the at-fault drver collided with the police cruiser as the officer was en route to a call on Potters Road. The woman was attempting a left-hand turn. The officer was treated for a serious head injury.

Hawkins, who was struck by a tractor-trailer in September 2010 while conducting a traffic stop on I-664 in Chesapeake, VA. Unable to return to work, Hawkins filed a $5 million lawsuit against the driver of the truck, alleging he was traveling at a dangerous and high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
Drunk Driving
It cannot be said often enough that no one should ever drink and drive. Alcohol affects coordination and lessens a person’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Every year, more than 17,000 people are killed in drunk driving accidents in the United States, and 500,000 are injured. That equates to one alcohol-related accident every 32 minutes.
If you intend to go out and drink, make arrangements beforehand to get home safely. Take a cab or designate a sober driver. There is simply no excuse to drink and drive when there are many available options to avoid doing so.
