Miss America Joins W82TXT Campaign

Comments Off

Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler has joined the campaign to stop teens from texting while driving. To spread the message about turning off the cell phone while driving, she wears and distributes thumb bands that say W82TXT, or "Wait to Text." During March 2012, she visited Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia (VA); Indian River High School in Chespeake; and Kellam High School in Virginia Beach.

Kaeppeler had a fender-bender while reaching for her phone when she was 16 years old, and she acknowledges that the distracted driving accident could have been much worse. With so many accidents occurring as a result of texting and driving, having Miss America lobby for this safety campaign is extremely helpful.
