Britax Announces Recall of 700,000 Strollers Due to Fall Risks

Comments Off

Virginia personal injury attorney, VA defective product lawyerBritax Child Safety Inc. has issued a recall for more than 700,000 of their strollers which have the Click & Go receiver mounts option because there is a risk of the car seat detaching from the stroller base and falling. The recalled models include Britax B-Agile and BOB Motion strollers.

Fall Risk Leads to Recall

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) there have been 33 reports filed by consumers where the car seat detached and fell. In 26 of those incidents, children received injuries from the fall, including bruises, cuts, scratches, and bumps to the head. There have also been more than 1,300 reports filed complaining of damage to the part of the mount that connects the car seat to the stroller.

The recalled strollers have been on the market since May of 2011 and sold in stores and online at major retailers including Amazon, Toys R Us, and Target. In the recall alert issued by Britax, consumers were advised to immediately stop using the strollers as travel systems, although the company did advise it is safe to continue to use the stroller in the fully reclined mode without the car seat attached.

The list of recalled models can be found on the CPCS website or on the Britax recall website. The model number of the stroller is located on the bottom of the stroller frame. If your stroller model is listed, the company recommends disposing of the Click & Go receiver and contacting them in order to receive a free repair kit. Contact information is also on the company’s recall website page.

Product Liability Claims

When a person receives injuries caused by a defective product, they may be able to file a product liability claim for those injuries. There may be more than one party who is liable for the defect that makes that product dangerous, including the manufacturer who designed and produced the item, and others involved in the chain of commerce.

Questions such as whether there was a design flaw in the product, whether there was an issue in the manufacturing process, and was the product thoroughly tested and inspected before being put on the market are issues a Virginia defective product attorney will examine when pursuing a product liability claim.
