Dangerous Product Reports from China On the Rise

Comments Off

A new report from the Rapid Exchange of Information System (RAPEX), the European Union’s organization for quickly identifying dangerous products across the globe, shows that defective consumer products coming out of China are on the rise. More than half of all warnings of dangerous products reported to RAPEX were out of China; officials suggested the numbers may reflect more the rising economic status of China’s economy and less to do with their products becoming more unsafe.

Nevertheless, dangerous product reports issued to RAPEX in 2012 had risen 26 percent from 2011; a large majority of these products were listed as seriously dangerous to consumers. The report concerning China’s defective products claimed that toys and clothes, among other items, were on the list of dangerous goods.

Defective products injure many consumers every year. Whether it’s pharmaceutical drugs, tools, automobiles or other consumer goods, the truth is that faulty manufacturing and negligent following of safety rules result in many purchases per year that could result in serious injury or even death. Recently Subaru recalled over 5,000 cars due to an incredibly dangerous steering problem; the problem of dangerous cars also recently attracted the attention of U.S. legislators, who put forth a bill to protect car renters from dangerous and recalled vehicles.Whether it’s cars, medicine, children’s toys or more, there are many dangerous products out there, and organizations like RAPEX, along with our elected officials, are critical resources for ensuring that consumers are protected from purchases that could seriously injure them through no fault of their own.
