Virginia Beach Virginia (VA) Children’s Chair Manufacturer Issues Recall

Comments Off

Spring fever is in the air and as of February, 2011, Swimways Corp., a maker of outdoor toys and furniture located in Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA), issued a recall of its Kristi G Go & Grow Chair, which is a collapsible cloth high chair. With temperatures slowly climbing and sunlight lingering around a little bit longer every day, people are starting to spend more and more time outside again. Long bike rides, grilling out, and evening dinners on the patio are all just around the corner. And of course, that includes getting your kids out of the house and into the yard.

The Swimways recalled chair includes a detachable tray and a sun canopy. The chair was also designed with holes in the seat to allow children to stand up. The product was on the market starting in March of 2010 and retailed between $34.99 and $89.99. However, since releasing the product, Swim Ways has received eight reports of their chairs tipping over; in two of those incidents the children’s hands and faces were scraped. Information posted by Swim Ways itself also cautions that the chairs pose a risk of bruises and head injury. That same information includes photographs of the three chair models that have been recalled. Consumers who have purchased these chairs are invited to contact Swim Ways to receive a refund for their purchase by calling (888) 559-4653.

Swimways’ recall of its collapsible outdoor high chair is a good reminder of how even the most basic of products can sometimes hold hidden risks and dangers, particularly when small children are involved, and the company is to be applauded for its pro-active voluntary recall. So, even if you weren’t a purchaser of the recalled product, this is a good opportunity to remember the importance of practicing some basic safe behaviors such as: carefully inspecting and understanding new products before you use them; being alert to any potential safety risks that might become present; and closely supervising young children with their toys and other products.
