Virginia Beach Attorney Reinvents the Wheel … Axle

Comments Off

If necessity is the mother of invention, then Richard N. Shapiro, a leading Virginia (VA) personal injury lawyer, may well be the father. Creating quality products that make people's lives easier is a primary goal for any inventor. But when the inventor is also an attorney who has experience handling product liability cases, you can bet any product he creates will be reliable and safe.

Shapiro saw the need for a wagon or cart that could haul anything from kids to mulch but still fit in the average family's car trunk. He now holds 14 U.S. patents relating to compact, folding wheel axle technology.

The newest product to reach production is his wagon with wheels that fold in for easy storage and transportation, making the wagon only 7 inches tall when folded flat. Radio Flyer recently signed a licensing agreement with Shapiro and began selling two models that include one of his inventions, a handle that folds over and into the wagon.

Why would an inventor also make a good product liability lawyer? The devil is in the details, and it takes an attorney with a meticulous mind to represent a client in these cases and to understand the producf development and testing process. One such product liability case involving a defect in a fiberglass ladder was resolved in favor of Shapiro's client for $375,000.

In product liability cases, it really pays to have a Virginia personal injury attorney who knows product liability law inside and out.
