Three Train Accidents In Eight Months?

Comments Off

It looks like lawmakers in Lebanon Township, PA, may want to look into installing better safety measures at a railroad crossing where there have apparently been three train accidents in eight months.

Cynthia Dunlap was hit by a train traveling 38 MPH in a 50 MPH train zone. According to witnesses, she was thrown from the driver side window of her car but was conscious when police arrived on the scene.

According to the Lebanon Daily News, the railroad crossing has flashing lights but no gate that lowers in the event of an oncoming train.

The crash occurred at the same location where 19-year-old Kristin Troxel was killed in June and a Jeep driven by South Lebanon resident Judy Troxell was struck in November.

Since the June crash that took the life of Troxel, local residents and public officials have demanded a gate be erected at 15th Avenue, but one has yet to be built. After a series of meetings and discussions, officials from Norfolk Southern, South Lebanon and the county have ironed out the details of the improvements, but no work has been done at the site.
