Young Woman Killed in Horrific Head-On Collision

A head-on collision in Mint Spring, Virginia killed one driver on Route 11 at Stagecoach Road in Mint Spring, Virginia killed one driver and has left the other driver with “life-threatening” injuries.

According to Virginia State Police, at approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, a 2006 Toyota 4Runner traveling northbound on Route 11 crossed over the double center line and crashed head-on into a 2011 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling southbound.

The driver of the Hyundai, 27-year-old Stacey L. Dehaven from Augusta, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Toyota, a 74-year-old woman from Middlebrook, was airlifted to UVA Medical Center.

Police say that both of the women were wearing seatbelts at the time of the fatal car crash. Troopers are currently investigating the accident and state that charges are pending against the driver of the Toyota, and in Virginia exceeding the posted speed limit is a statutory violation in a civil personal injury case. The posted speed limit in the area the accident occurred is 55 m.p.h.

Although police have not yet announced the results of their investigation and what the charges against the driver who caused the fatal accident will be, statistics show that speeding is one of the most common causes of fatal car crashes. According to national statistics, drivers who are speeding are responsible for about 30 percent of all fatal car crashes each year.

When it comes to which month is the deadliest, it appears that October is particularly a dangerous month of the year for fatal traffic crashes caused by speeding, with more than half of these crashes occurring on the weekends, from Friday through Sunday.
