What was to be a celebration  of new beginnings, ended abruptly in the tragic death of the groom,  Chris Raynor, 28 on his way to breakfast with his groomsman on the day  of his wedding. Charged with Death by Vehicle, James Early ran a red  light in Raleigh, NC and slammed into the side of Raynor’s car, throwing  him from the vehicle.

When the bride to be,  Karen Taylor and guests were told about the accident, the festivities  became a memorial service. Taylor spoke and shared that she would always  love Raynor.

Running a red light and  impacting another vehicle from a right angle, results in a far more  serious collision then other accidents.  An eight county study done in  Texas found they are more likely to cause fatalities or serious injury  as a result.

It has been proven that  installing red light cameras at high incident intersections can reduce  the number of crashes dramatically.  In Raleigh, NC the reduction in  right-angle collisions was 42%, it was a 25% reduction for rear end  collisions and 22% for all red-light related incidents.  Rocky Mount,  NC saw similar results with a total red-light related collisions decrease  of 31%.

While red light cameras  at intersections can reduce accidents, it is the responsibility of those  behind the wheel to pay attention while driving.  Had Early done so,  there would be another happy couple in the community rather then broken  hearts.
