Police in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC) charged a man in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a passenger riding a moped and seriously injured the moped operator.

Police stated that the driver of a 2011 Infiniti rear ended a moped, which then got stuck on the bumper of the Infiniti. This caused both the driver and passenger of the moped to be thrown off the vehicle. The passenger died at the scene and the driver was sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the driver of the Infiniti fled the scene driving about a mile away from the accident. He then parked his car and fled on foot. The police department called in K-9 units and a helicopter to locate the man.

The level of cowardice, insensitivity and plain disregard for human life is staggering when a person decides to flee the scene of a major accident. In that moment, the at-fault driver is only thinking about themselves and how they can avoid responsibility. It is not only morally reprehensible, but it is also against the law in every state.

Fortunately, the driver of the Infiniti was caught by police.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims, especially to the family of the passenger who lost his life. Just imagine, in the blink of an eye, their lives were turned upside down; and during the holiday season. It’s a truly heartbreaking incident.
