The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced a voluntary recall initiated by Dream on Me, Inc. for approximately 560 Happy Swing II Infant Swings, and approximately 90 Bistro High Chairs. The recall was initiated due to strangulation hazards. The company is located in South Plainfield, NJ, and imported the products from China. As of this writing, no injuries have been reported related to either recalled product, according to the CPSC.
The CPSC stated that the recall for the fabric infant swing is being initiated because ‘the opening between the tray and seat, or the grab bar and the seat, can allow a child’s body to pass through and become entrapped at the neck, posing a strangulation hazard to young children if the belt is not engaged.’ The model number of the product affected by this recall is 432, which may be found on a label on the swing’s frame. The swings included in the recall were sold from October 2010 to September 2012 at Wayfair and Amazon.com.
The CPSC also noted that the Bistro High Chair is being recalled because ‘the front openings between the tray and the seat bottom and on the side openings of the high chair between the armrest and seat bottom can allow a child’s body to pass through and become entrapped at the neck. This poses a strangulation hazard to young children if the belt is not engaged. Also, exposed springs between the seat and armrest on both sides of the high chair can create a pinch hazard to the child.’
The recall concerns any Dream On Me Bistro high chair with model number 225. This number is printed on a tag that is attached to the chair’s back, and they were manufactured in July 2011. The high chairs were sold at Americas Kids, Kid Pro USA and online at Toysrus.com from November 2011 to September 2012.
The recalls in this announcement were initiated after Consumer Reports alerted the CSPC and Dream On Me in February 2012, after the Bistro did not meet two key safety criteria in their consumer tests.
CPSC instructed that anyone who owns the Happy Swing II or Bistro High Chair should stop using the products right away. They should then contact Dream On Me, Inc., to receive instructions on how to obtain a free replacement. Consumers also may replace the swing with a walker.
