The National Park Service based out of their Manteo, NC branch have announced that they are now recruiting volunteers for a program of beach watchers to help prevent crime and vandalism along North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

Park Officials from Cape Hatteras National Seashore say the program is designed to help employees monitor inappropriate or illegal activities and promote good use of the park’s facilities.

Program volunteers would be trained to help the park service watch for compliance with beach closures, crowding and unsafe conditions.

Concerned park users and community leaders have created the program during discussions with park personnel about ways to prevent vandalism and encroachment on areas closed for rare bird and turtle nesting.
