A recent recall has parents concerned over the potential dangers of toy ingestion. The subject of the recall are toys that absorb water and expand to upwards of 400 times their original size. These toys have been recalled voluntarily after reports of a baby ingesting such a toy required surgery for removal of the object. The Consumer Product Safety Commission released an official report surrounding the toys, stating that the toys start out marble sized, but once swallowed can expand and cause digestive blockage. These toys do not show on x-rays and can only be removed through surgery.

The offending toys are Water Balz, Growing Skulls, H2O Orbs, and Fabulous Flowers, which were sold in stores throughout Canada and the United States from 2010 to 2012. Consumers are urged by the CPSC to discontinue use of the product immediately and seek recall of their toys as advised. The recall was announced Monday.

If you or someone you love has be affected by such expanding toys it is important to seek medical attention immediately as well as legal consultation. Understanding your rights and educating yourself about the dangers of use can mean the difference between a worry free play time, or a trip to the hospital.
