Although laws about cell phone usage while driving have been implemented, fact remains that accidents caused by this is still prevalent among teens and even adults. An estimated million people each day chat on their mobile or send text messages while driving (The Herald).

According to NHTSA, the number one source of driver inattention is use of a wireless device. Drivers who use cell phones are four times most likely to get into crashes. This is because 40% of the brain power is used when using cell phones while driving.

A new study, released by Virginia Tech, also shows that people who text while driving are 23 times more likely to cause an accident than those who drive free of distraction. This has already been a growing problem that can’t easily be stopped since access to cell phones nowadays is just so easy. Cell phones are somewhat of a necessity to everyone.

According to some studies, the level of drunk drivers and those who use cell phone while driving is very similar in numbers. Additionally, the use of hands free cell phones are just as distracting as handheld cell phones because of the conversation itself and not the manipulation of a handheld phone distracts drivers from the road.
