Virginia State Police are looking for a hit and run driver by the name of Ovidio Rivera who they believe may have headed south to North Carolina. Rivera is accused of leaving the scene of an accident on May 6, 2009 where he allegedly crashed into a Ford Escort driven by Marine Daniel Van Pelt. According to reports Rivera was drinking and driving and hit Van Pelt’s car head on.

WHSV.com reported that Van Pelt’s injuries are quite severe and he is recuperating at home with the help of his girlfriend and mother. His arms are covered in bandages from the tips of his fingers to his shoulders. The bandages cover broken wrists, elbow and dislocated hands. He is facing a surgery to help correct the damage on Friday.

The police are continuing to look for Rivera in Virginia but they are extending their search south in North Carolina. They also have leads that Rivera goes under many different names. Rivera has four warrants out for his arrest and the police are hoping that someone who knows him will give them a lead to his whereabouts.
