Every product you own has the possibility of injuring you or someone you know. Despite regulated tests, defective products are still sold to consumers. If you, a loved one, or a child were injured by a defective product in your home there are steps you can take to recover from your injuries and ensure that the injury does not happen to anyone else.

Seek medical attention. The single most important thing you can do when injured by a defective product is to seek medical attention. Allowing an injury to go untreated can cause your condition to worsen. Also, having a medical record of your injury may help you prove the product was defective and to blame for your condition later on.

Determine if a recall was issued for the product. More often then not, recalls are issued without the consumer being aware of them. Research the Consumer Product Safety Commission website to determine if a recall was already issued for the defective product in your home. The recall will have information on how to return or repair the product. If no recall has been issued for the product, contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the product’s manufacturer about your injuries.

Seek legal assistance. If the extent of the injury to you or your child was severe, you will have expensive medical bills and lost wages from taking time off of work. By contacting a qualified defective product attorney, you may be able to recoup your losses.

No one should have to suffer any injury from a product that was sold defective, but it does happen. By knowing what to do, you will be better equipped to handle the situation in the event that it happens to you.
