Great sadness has been spread throughout the Outer Banks, North Carolina for the loss of Sergeant Dulan Earl Murray, Jr. who died in the line of duty on May 15, 2009. Sergeant Murray was responding to a residential breaking and entering call when he lost control of his patrol car. The car left the road and hit a power pole. Sergeant Murray died at the scene. A black patrol car sat Friday at the scene of the accident covered in flowers from people paying their respects.
Sergeant Murray is described as a wonderful family man and an honorable dedicated officer. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Nags Head Mayor Renée Cahoon stated, "Earl Murray was one of the finest, most dedicated officers we’ve ever had. More importantly though, he was one of the most dedicated family men we’ve ever known. We are so much better off for having known Earl. This loss is just indescribable."
Another sad part of this accident is that today is National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day. Peace Officers Memorial Day is held on May 15 each year to honor federal, state and local officers who have died in the line of duty. Our sympathies go out to the Murray family, the Nags Head Police Department and the Outer Banks Community.
