The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has reported a man has died after crossing center lane on a road in the town of Fuquay-Varina. The individual died in a two-vehicle wreck on Old Honneycutt Road, just outside of the small town that lies near Raleigh.

According to trooper H.C. Ellefson, the man was speeding when his car crossed the center line and hit a Ford Ranger truck in a head-on collision. Although the driver of the car died, the man driving the Ford Ranger was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh where he was treated for a broken leg.

Tragically, this car collision has taken the life of a man that was probably loved by many that knew him. More than likely, he had many projects and plans in his life that were instantly cut short. It is fortunate that there was a survivor in the wreck. If more people obeyed the law and followed proper safety precautions there would be fewer accidents like this one.

Head-on collisions, sideswipes, and run-off-road crashes all belong to a category of crashes called lane-departure or road-departure crashes. This is because they have similar causes, if different consequences. The driver of a vehicle fails to stay centered in their lane, and either leaves the roadway, or crosses the centerline, possibly resulting in a head-on or sideswipe collision, or, if the vehicle avoids oncoming traffic, a run-off-road crash on the far side of the road.
