A vehicle reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a Hampton Roads Transit bus in Virginia Beach. Twenty passengers were on the bus when the collision occurred and nine people suffered injuries as a result.

The extent of the passenger’s injuries is unknown at this time. Hopefully, they’ll make a speedy recovery. Though, there’s a chance they’ll be forced to miss some time from work and have to get medical care to treat their injuries.

This incident is a stark reminder that failing to obey traffic signals is a huge mistake that can result in serious harm. I know it’s tempting to try and “beat the light” so you get through just before the light turns red. However, making that decision is a huge risk and comes with serious consequences (as this wreck illustrates).

Police cited the driver of the vehicle for running the light. Running a red light constitutes a violation of  § 46.2-833 of the Virginia Code (and carries a potential $350 fine).
