A Marine from New River Air Station in Jacksonville drowned in Pender County, according to officials. It is still not known as to the exact cause of the drowning that has taken this young Marine’s life.

Authorities who were at the scene reported that 20-year-old Demorion Bryant was swimming last weekend with his friends at Lanier’s Quarry in Maple Hill when he drowned. Pender County law enforcement officials and rescue divers were called to the scene, but Bryant died before they got to him.

Enjoying some time in the water in the summer months is a recreational past time enjoyed by most people. When accidents happen they come with out warning obviously. It’s a smart idea to learn some basic first aid skills and CPR in case good times turn into troubles. Most cases your local community center or college will offer these types of classes. It would be well worth your time and give you an added sense of security when enjoying an active lifestyle.
