Police in Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA) are focused on decreasing incidences of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol as part of the new “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest” national campaign. There will be sobriety and saturation check points throughout the city.

In 2008, over 350 people were killed in alcohol-related car crashes in Virginia (VA), according to The Virginian-Pilot. The numbers in Virginia Beach aren’t much better. Alcohol and/or drugs played a role in 17 out of 28 fatal car crashes last year.
As an injury lawyer who’s represented clients seriously hurt in car accidents, I applaud Virginia Beach police for emphasizing the importance of safe driving by enforcing DUI laws. A zero tolerance policy will send a clear signal that irresponsible behavior like drinking and driving is not acceptable.
If you happen to have a “few too many” drinks at a bar, Virginia Beach offers the “Do Not Tow” program at the Oceanfront. This program enables drivers to leave their cars in city lots overnight if they’re too intoxicated to drive, according to the Pilot. All you have to do is request a tag from a parking lot attendant.
