This sad incident shows how dangerous riding a motorcycle can be. In 2008, vehicle crashes in the US were at an all time low, but motorcycle deaths were at an all time high. In fact, they doubled between 1999 and 2008. If you are going to ride a motorcycle, it is very important to follow basic safety rules:
- Always wear a DOT-approved helmet
- Never ride after drinking, not even a sip
- Wear protective clothes, such as denim or leather, and you should have a bright colored or reflective top so other drivers can see you
- Never tailgate
- Never drive over the speak limit and slow down when driving on a wet road
